Do I need a licence to operate a mini digger?
No — you don't need a licence to operate a mini digger on private land such as your own garden. For commercial sites a CPCS/NPORS card is usually required. If you'd rather not operate it yourself, you can hire a digger with a driver.
What size mini digger do I need?
For most garden jobs a 1–1.5 tonne mini digger is ideal. For tight access (through a standard gate) choose a 0.8t micro digger; for extensions and deeper footings step up to a 3 tonne. Our size guide walks you through it.
